10 Un-Boring Ways to Mix Up Your Social Media Content

Written by Remington Begg | November 11, 2015 at 1:30 PM

Many marketers are guilty of occasionally getting a little bit routine with social media content. It happens to many of us: we get busy or into a rut and begin to only share one type of strategic piece. But one of the best ways to keep your social media engagement up and your followers happy is to mix up your content and share more than just your company-produced pieces. If your brand’s content has gotten too formulaic, boring, or predictable, you’re only contributing to many consumers’ growing boredom with social media. Try doing some of these instead:

Polls

Who doesn’t love sharing their opinion on brand social media pages? Develop questions that give your followers a voice in your next project or ask their opinion on which logo they like the best.

Fill in the Blanks

People are more than just their work identity. Try something like “After work on Friday, I am going to ____.” Watch the comments roll in!

Favorite Things

“What brand of coffee do you drink at work?” As long as it’s relevant to your buyer personas, it might be relevant social content.

Throwback Thursdays

#tbt is a big trend every Thursday on just about every social media platform. How did your company, office space, or staff look in the past? Get a little personal and share funny, maybe embarrassing, photos of yourself to deepen the personal connection with your followers.

Reoccurring Content

Create a weekly series, which could be anything from Share Photos of Your Dog Day or Team Member Tuesday, and stick to this posting schedule. Your followers will come to look forward to it.

Mystery Photos

Most social media platforms were intended to be fun, so make your page entertaining. Offer a prize to the first individual to guess which of your products or staff is featured in a confusing or obscured image.

Company Celebrations

Is today your company’s 3rd anniversary or a staff member’s 30th birthday? Share your milestones, especially with images of your staff celebrating. Who knows, showing people how fun your workplace is may just help you bring in more talent next time you’re hiring new talent.

Weird Holidays

Did you know that November 3rd is World Cliché Day or April 7th is National Beer Day? These sort of days often trend on Facebook and Twitter, so it’s a great way to newsjack. If you can strategize ahead of time to coordinate a blog topic with the offbeat holiday, even better!

This or That

“Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts?” “Monster or Redbull?” “Coke or Pepsi?” People love to tell others about their brand preferences. Silly questions like this are a great way to end a Friday and can really bring in a wave of comments, shares, and likes!

Graphs or Charts

Everyone loves a good statistic to impress their friends. Sharing original or interesting research can give your prospects and clients something to cite. It doesn’t necessarily have to be industry related, even something like “Did you know that the woolly mammoth was still around when the pyramids were being built?” will get people talking. That’s true, by the way!

If you only take one thing away from this blog, let it be this: instead of always trying to push promotional posts, actually socialize with your followers on social media. Ask them questions! Get a conversation started! If your feed is post after post of links to your blog, people will lose interest in your brand.
