Generative AI and robots. Are these two things connected? I think so. But not like The Terminator.
Story time.
Growing up in Michigan, I saw firsthand the impact of robotics in the automotive manufacturing industry. It wasn't just about machines taking over jobs – it was about a community facing uncertainty, fear, and hope all at once.
Even though I live two hours from Detroit, the heart of the automotive industry, we’re all impacted by these developments. Suppliers to the Big 3 are peppered across Michigan.
So I can remember the concerns being voiced as assembly lines ramped up their robotics in the 80s and 90s.
People worried about what it meant for their jobs and their future. I saw this on the news, heard at the dinner table, and experienced the trepidation in many conversations.
But as time passed, something interesting happened. Our worst fears… were not realized.
Those robots didn't take away jobs – they transformed them. They made factories more efficient, products more reliable, and the industry more competitive on the global stage.
Today, factories are filled with humans and machines working together in harmony, each bringing their own unique strengths to the table.
And now, as we stand on the brink of another technological revolution with Generative AI, I can't help but feel a sense of déjà vu.
We’ve been here before.
Just like with robotics, there's fear and uncertainty about what the future holds.
Creators are concerned. Writers are ringing their hands. Actors are alarmed. Marketers are mulling over what’s next for them.
But here’s the thing. While we need to be cautiously optimistic and pragmatic, I don’t think we need to be scared of our own shadows.
Generative AI doesn’t have to end up replacing us… we can use it to empower us.
It can help us unleash our creativity, fuel our innovation, and propel us into a future limited only by our imagination.
That’s why I keep thinking that the Generative AI revolution is a lot like robotics in manufacturing.
We've been down this road before, and we know where it can lead. We just need to be pragmatic and strategic, and avoid jumping without looking.
Generative AI is already showing up in tools all along our professional paths. It’s time to embrace the future with cautious excitement, knowing that together, we can shape a world where humans and technology thrive side by side.
Which is why I’m proud of Impulse Creative and the work we’re doing, as we explore the future. We even have an employee-run AI Council where we’re setting our parameters for working with this new technology.
Keep an eye on our content and various distribution channels at Impulse for more generative AI content. We’re on this journey together.
